BRIEF
With the Moon festival approaching, create non-plastic, fully recyclable, fully compostable protective packaging for six vegan mooncakes, providing natural barriers to oxygen and humidity for a period of up to 6 months at room temperature. With social occasions occurring primarily outdoors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, create a box that can be taken to a picnic and maintain a positive relationship with the environment while taking into account the social implications of a sharing box.
ADDLESS MISSION
To link the vegan mooncakes and their eco-friendly packaging through a mission to be ecological, and through the celebration of the Moon festival. Create a truly memorable customer experience that is shareable both in-person and on social media, making plant-based food as attractive as possible, and promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle. Use the latest plastic-free technologies to protect the product for an extended period of time, eliminating waste and providing sustainable solutions to brands and consumers.
To produce an extremely compact, completely fibre-based box, eliminating the unnecessary wastefulness of typically oversized traditional mooncake boxes, while adhering fully to FSC-certified paper and production methods. In place of plastic, our box will use bagasse material, a by-product of sugar cane processing, which is 100% recyclable in a paper stream. The ink used in creating the box is made of soy and is solvent-free.
RESULT
Providing a deeply satisfying, memorable, and shareable manual opening process without the need for magnets in the packaging. Consumers are proud to share their stance with our product, indicating their commitment to help fight the climate crisis. Elevating the packaging experience further by allowing the opening flaps to pivot underneath the box, forming the legs of a picnic table to encourage the consumer to enjoy the product in nature. In addition, a game has been included based around the Moon festival, promoting the social enjoyment of the packaging and product.
Pre-sales of the box designed by ADDLESS for this year’s Moon festival completely sold out on Green Common’s marketplace within three weeks, representing a 500% increase on sales from previous years. During a time when billions of mooncakes are being produced, this represents a huge step forward for sustainable alternatives.
ADDLESS is proud to stand together with Green Common in the mission to encourage sustainable and healthy living.
